In 2016, Feature Shoot launched The Print Swap in hopes of connecting photographers across the world. Eight international exhibitions later and with more on the way, we’re thrilled to announce the largest Print Swap show ever, taking place at the beautiful ROOT Studios in Brooklyn on December 13th. This will be our second holiday party, and every single photographer who participated in the swap between mid-September and mid-November will exhibit their work. We have artists from all over the globe represented, and with some of them traveling from faraway locales to attend, it will surely be a night to remember. If you’re in town, be sure to RSVP here.
The exhibition was curated by our team of Print Swap editors and has no fixed theme, though the connection between nature, humanity, and the built environment seems to be a recurring motif. On one hand, exhibiting photographer Wolf Silveri addresses the plastic crisis simply and powerfully, pointing to the ways in which we continue to harm our planet. At the other end of the spectrum, we see true moments of tenderness between humankind and nature; in Every Day is a Gift, Deborah Hodges introduces us to Chloe, a horse who has melanoma, writing, “Her people love her very much. And until she no longer can, she will adorn the misty mornings on the hill.” This holiday season, images from The Print Swap remind us to be grateful and to cherish our surroundings.
As a reminder, The Print Swap is open year-round, and while the deadline for the holiday show at ROOT has passed, we’re currently accepting submissions for our next exhibition, opening at The Other Art Fair Sydney in March. Our guest curator for this next show is Carly Earl, Picture Editor at The Guardian Australia. To submit images, simply tag #theprintswap on Instagram or email us at [email protected]. For a limited time, we’re also inviting Print Swap photographers to pitch us their dream photography project, and we’ll pay three winners $500 each to bring their ideas to life.
Every Print Swap photographer gives a print and receives a print especially chosen for them by another artist somewhere in the world, regardless of whether or not they are selected for one of our offline exhibitions. It’s free to submit to The Print Swap, but selected photographers pay $40 per image to participate, which covers printing and shipping in full. Learn more at our website, and follow along at @theprintswap on Instagram for updates.
